1. 主要內容

本文將通過分析在吳精美童年時期和其成年之后與母親吳素云之間從矛盾沖突到最終理解的故事情節闡釋其中的文化內涵：移民母親和在美國生長的女兒間的沖突與和解實質上體現了中美文化間的碰撞與交融，中美文化從沖突到融合是必然的發展趨勢，這同時也是作者對于多元文化和諧發展的期待和信心。

本論文要圍繞下個幾個問題展開：

1)母女沖突融合在小說中是如何產生的？

2)母女沖突和融合在小說中是如何表現的？

3)母女沖突和融合的文化內涵是怎樣體現的？

The paper will analyze the causes of the conflicts and the reconciliation between Jing-mei Woo’s and her mother Suyuan Woo to interpretate their cultural implications：the conflicts and the reconciliation between the Chinese immigrant mother and the American-raised daughter reflect the conflicts and the reconciliation between Chinese culture and American culture. It reveals a necessary trend in the multicultural development and also the author’s belief in the harmonious multicultural development and expectation for it.

The paper will center on three research questions as follows:

1. How do the conflicts and the reconciliation between the mother and the daughter bring about in the novel?

2. How do the conflicts and the reconciliation between the mother and the daughter represent in the novel?

3. How do the cultural implications of the conflicts and the reconciliation between the mother and the daughter reveal in the novel?

2. 基本要求

2.1首先認真研讀文本以及指定的參考資料并寫出文獻綜述；在文獻綜述的基礎上考慮論文題目與主題思想(thesis statement)，其描述要求如下：

A thesis statement is a single sentence that formulates both your topic and your point of view. In a sense, the thesis statement is your answer to the central question or problem you have raised.

2)to remain on a productive path as you plan and write. 

3)What purpose will you try to achieve in the paper? 

4)Do you want to describe something, explain something, argue for a certain point of view, or persuade your reader to think or do something?

2.2 要求論點明確，舉例分析透徹并支持論點；

2.3 要求行文通順、邏輯性強、文風平實、資料詳實、引述有出處；

2.4 要求參考資料為學術出版物，保證其學術嚴肅性、資料準確性、及其學術價值的長期有效性。
