Abstract: Language is the carrier of culture. With the influence of globalization and China’s development, a large number of Chinese loanwords swarm into English vocabulary. Based on the previous researches of English loanwords, through a large collection of English loanwords borrowed from Chinese, this study concentrates on the classifications of the Chinese loanwords in English and pays much attention to the borrowing means. It also explores the cultural connotation hidden in the Chinese loanwords, hoping to help linguistic learners better understand loanwords and Chinese culture. This paper finds that more and more Chinese loanwords are enlarged in English because of the growth of Chinese national power, the development of economy and culture, and frequent exchanges. They can not only contribute to improve cross-culture communication, but also help to make a clear understand of cultural difference for linguistic learners.
