Abstract:As the masterpiece of Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice is recognized as one of the most famous novels around the world. It is famous for its unique language and vivid depiction of characters. There are many structural metaphors in the novel, which makes contributions to the pictorial descriptions of the personalities and emotions of characters. In structural metaphors, concept is metaphorically structured in terms of another. The latter can be systematically understood according to the structure of the former. In this paper, the author will apply the cognitive linguistic theory to analyze structural metaphors existing in Pride and Prejudice written by Jane Austen. Structural metaphor is more powerful interpretation than a traditional notion of metaphor. The paper also proves that in the novel Pride and Prejudice structural metaphors exist widely. Although many scholars have already analyzed the metaphors in Jane Austen 's novel Pride and Prejudice from the traditional perspective, the author believes that structural metaphors can convey the hidden meanings in Pride and Prejudice more vividly and exactly. All in all, structural metaphors are omnipresent in people's daily life. It is not only a rhetorical device, but also a cognitive tool.
