Abstract: Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald, representative of the “Lost Generation” and the “Roaring 1920s”, is one of the greatest American novelists in the twentieth century. His masterpiece The Great Gatsby reveals to us a story about Gatsby, a man born of the grass-root class. All of Gatsby’s life had been connected with a woman named Daisy. This thesis is to unfold Gatsby's blind and unrequited love for Daisy and his dismal and unnoticed death for the woman, and then further bring about the causes of Gatsby’s love tragedy, referring to the collapse of bourgeois morality and the impassible gap between different classes. From the above analysis, readers can achieve a deeper understanding of the protagonist’s life track. Key words: Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald; love tragedy; The Great Gatsby;
