Abstract: With the reform and opening up and globalization, more and more English films rush into China, but most of Chinese people are unlikely to directly understand the English film in the original. Therefore, film subtitle translators play a key role to assist the audience to understand the film. In the meanwhile, English film is an important way of language learning for English learners. In this paper, through the analysis of characteristics of film subtitles and the translation methods and the application of domestication and foreignization in translating the film Scent of a woman, the author studies how to combine domestication and foreignization in the subtitle translation practice and how to deal with the relationship between the source language culture and target language one, in order to reduce the cultural differences and promote the communication between different cultures. In the film translation, the translation should not only conform to the local people's language habits, but also be in accordance with the cultural connotation of the original text. Only by combining the two can the translator introduce outstanding foreign films more accurately, promote cultural exchanges between nations and stimulate the development of films all over the world.
