Abstract
Animal words which are closely related to human’s life are created by human through a long-term observation and development with special social and cultural connotation. However, as a consequence of the distinctive ways of thinking and different cultural background between Chinese and English, the same animal word conveys different connotations in two languages. Therefore, it has become a significant issue how to deal with the translation of animal words appropriately during the process of translation in the translation field. This paper mainly focuses on animal words under various cultural backgrounds. On the basis of abundant examples, this paper mainly compares and analyzes the associative meaning of Chinese and English animal words from the perspectives of similarities, differences and cultural defaults. Besides, the application of the translation strategies, domestication and foreignization, to the E-C translation of English animal words is expounded as well, hoping to offer English learners some reference.
