Abstract With the rapid development of tourism, more and more Chinese tourists choose to tour abroad, as a universal language of today’s world, English has become the most important medium of communication in international tourist activities. Thus, this special English is becoming more and more popular and necessary. Tourist English is connected with people’s daily lives more and more closely. But tourist English has its own specific characteristics, and the translation of rhetoric devices in tourist English sometimes makes people feel tricky. This paper attempts to study the translation strategies of rhetoric devices in tourist English under the guidance of functional equivalence theory, exploring the main factors that affect the rhetorical translation, and seeking a better translation strategy. According to the functional equivalence theory, the closest and the most natural equivalence should be achieved so as to reproduce the original information. This paper mainly starts from three aspects to analysis the factors that affecting the translation of tourist English rhetoric: From regional cognitive differences, through changing the way of translation, we can make the target readers get the same or similar feelings with original language readers; From different sentence structure between Chinese and English, through changing the sentence structure of the translation, we can live in harmony with cultural differences; From specificity of tourist English readers, through conveying the expression content of the translation correctly, visitors can fully understand and enjoy the original play of attractions. According to the study, I hope that it can make tourist translation practitioners better understand the implications of rhetoric in tourist English, master the use of rhetoric of tourist English more flexibly, and solve the problems of translation of rhetoric devices in tourist English more effectively.
